Day 1 - USA…SPAIN
Depart from USA for Madrid.  Dinner and overnight aloft.
 
Day 2 – MADRID
Arrive at 7:45 AM at Madrid Airport where, after having retrieved your luggage, you will be met by your RENAISSANCE TRAVEL representative who will assist you through customs, and lead you to your waiting private motorcoach and transferred to your hotel. After checking in and resting briefly, you will be guided through a short tour of the city of MADRID. Dinner and overnight at Hotel.

Day 3 – MADRID
This morning after a Continental breakfast at your hotel, you will be taken on a city tour which will include stops at the Prado Museum, one of the most important art galleries in the world; and at the Royal Palace, a magnificent 18th century building and one of the most beautiful palaces in Europe.  Dinner and overnight at Hotel.

Day 4 – MADRID…TOLEDO…MADRID
Continental breakfast at your hotel.  A full-day excursion, including lunch, starts with the ride south of Madrid to the ancient Spanish capital of TOLEDO, a city dominated by its magnificent cathedral and the Alcazar. Toledo is the location of the collection of paintings by El Greco who lived and painted there. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 5 – MADRID…ESCORIAL…AVILA
Continental breakfast at your hotel. The ride today will be to EL ESCORIAL, the famous 16th century monastery-palace built for Philip II who governed the great Spanish empire for 14 years.  The massive palace is in the shape of a gridiron to symbolize the martyrdom of St. Lawrence, to whom it is dedicated.  You will also visit the nearby VALLEY of the FALLEN, a monument built in memory of those who died during the Spanish Civil War.   Perched on the mountain is the famous giant cross carved out of rock and seen from miles away.  Lunch will be included.  The next stop is in the town of AVILA.  The most impressive feature of this town is its medieval walls which surround it. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 6 – AVILA
Continental breakfast at your hotel.  Enjoy the day visiting the magnificence of the city of AVILA enclosed within its 11th century walls.  Astonishingly well preserved, their 88 semi circular towers and battlements enclose nearly half the present city.  Remarkable is the fact that they were erected in only 3 years and are still intact to this day.  Avila is renowned for being the birthplace of the mystic and pragmatic religious, St. Teresa. You will visit the cathedral and the convent where she is buried and take a walking round-trip through the streets of the city. Dinner overnight at Hotel.

Day 7 – AVILA…SEGOVIA…ZARAGOZA
Continental breakfast at your hotel.   On schedule is a half-day guided tour of SEGOVIA where you will also stop for lunch.  At the core of Segovia is an ancient walled village founded by the Celts and brought to prominence by the Romans.  They erected an aqueduct which is still in use. There are many unspoiled Romanesque churches in this old town rich in historical monuments.  Final stop this day is in the city of ZARAGOZA, Spain’s fifth largest city where you will overnight at Hotel.
 
Day 8 – ZARAGOZA…BARCELONA
Continental breakfast at your hotel.  The guide will take you on a tour of  ZARAGOZA to see one of Spain’s grandest squares, including a stop at the important Marian Shrine, “Our Lady of Pilar”.  At the end of the day, you will ride to BARCELONA where you will have dinner before returning to your Hotel.  
 
Day 9 – BARCELONA…MONTSERRAT
Continental breakfast at your hotel. In the morning you will tour the city of  BARCELONA, the second-largest city in the country and Spain’s major commercial and industrial center, as well as one of the most important Mediterranean ports.  The city is renowned for its excellent Romanesque art, and contains the most famous examples of the architect Antonio Gaudi.  At the age of 32 he’d started work on what is now one of the world’s most extraordinary churches, the Sagrada Familia.  Gaudi died while the work was still in progress, and construction still continues on this century-old church.   37 miles northwest of Barcelona is MONTSERRAT, site of a world-famous monastery and legendary home of the Holy Grail.  Montserrat is the actual home of the famous Black Madonna.  Dinner and overnight at Hotel.  

Day 10 – SPAIN…USA
Continental breakfast at your hotel.  You will be taken to the Barcelona airport for your flight home
